Stars and Moon (Socrates)

© 2017 Charly Humbolt

death defying acts
jumping through hoops
every day's got its high wire trapeze
the night has its own set of guarantees

we're just layin’ down our tracks before the
dust blows them away in a breeze

quoting Socrates
quoting Socrates

that's why we always must keep
the stars and moon in our eyes
the hope in our hearts
the magic of the sunrise
we always must keep
the stars and moon in our eyes
that glimmer of hope shining shining
shining through the skies

strange hanging fruits
trail of tears
short-handled hoes
blood stained red meadows
human history built on bone yards
inhumanity

quoting Socrates
quoting Socrates

that's why we must always keep
the stars and moon in our eyes
that  glimmer of hope shining shining
shining through the skies

let’s hope we always see
those stars and moon in each others eyes
that glimmer of light shining shining shining
shining through the skies
shining through the skies

common ground has become taboo
stick by your guns and fire at will
lofty politicos who delude
trust defined in magnitude
screamers inside walls looking at free
those on the outside feeling under lock and key

quoting Socrates
quoting Socrates

that's why we always must keep
the stars and moon in our eyes
the hope in our hearts
the magic of the sunrise

we always must keep
the stars and moon in our eyes
