Drifting on By© 2019 Charly Humbolt rolling in solo from his station wagon he was on stage again breeze blowing through his long sandy hair the few gathered talking loud smoking in the air he just kept playing his songs never even pretended to care he said a tune can be happy or sad depending on how you're feeling that day said he much preferred happy but knew the sad could get in the way listening to others tell his story I looked up at the sky seeing clouds drift on by drift on by seems like we're all just drifting on by seems like we're all just drifting on by his lyrics were simple and straight the best kind I suppose like finding a new sweetheart making a new start never hid his loneliness like most he already knew that part he said he always preferred happy songs but could never shake off the sad just one of those things he said he accepted some say that eventually would drive him mad the more I read about him had me looking up at the sky watching clouds drift on by drift on by seems like we're all just drifting on by near the end he heard many folks say, about how much he meant to them that made him feel real real good they said his songs were about the misunderstood he thanked them and said he didn't know about that but was glad to do what he could now that he's gone and passed on I still look up at the sky I think I hear him singing singing in the clouds drifting on by I think I hear him singing singing in the clouds drifting on by |
